Arrival at Omonoia

By David Capps

Near sleep and in wonder, your hair sculpts

surrounding flowering darkness,

you study me as though to paint me a still life,

home and hand held out.

Enter now cicadas blue at dawn, disappearing

into trees with the lawfulness

of subjects into copulas. Enter today’s graffiti,

Omonoia’s alleys lain line after line

with the rhythm of shells opening at high tide.

We must work quickly

against the encroaching untouchable flames

that are the hours.
